Utopia Self-Checkout Setting Records at Strack & Van Til Grocery
Only ten days after the installation of the Utopia self-checkout units at the
grocery chain Strack & VanTil in the Chicago area, Utopia is raising the bar for the self-checkout industry.
The grocery store had set a goal of 15% sales through the self-checkout lanes. That goal was reached
this past week.
Thrilled with the performance of their first Utopia units, Strack and Van Til will be installing Utopia Self-
Checkout lanes in two more locations in the coming months, according to Henry Bykerk, VP of
Information Systems at Strack & Van Til.
Grocery staff and shoppers alike are pleased the new lanes. Unattended transactions through the self-
checkout lanes were at 75% to 80%, with the 25% requiring an attendant being check payment ID, age
verification and input store coupon info. This percentage is unheard of in the self-checkout industry!
